Basel: hard blow for Auger-Aliassime, forced to withdraw
Just as he seemed to be making a comeback towards the end of the season, Félix Auger-Aliassime had to abruptly withdraw in Basel.
This is a heavy blow for Félix Auger-Aliassime. In Basel, at the same tournament where he triumphed in 2022, the Canadian had to withdraw during the quarterfinals against Spaniard Jaume Munar (6-3, ret.).
Clearly physically hampered, the player who will return to the top 10 at the end of the week never seemed capable of competing. After just 46 minutes of play, he made the decision to leave the court.
For several weeks, Auger-Aliassime has been playing tournament after tournament in an attempt to secure a last-minute spot in the Turin Masters, which brings together the top eight players of the season.
A tough scenario, therefore, for the 25-year-old player, who was coming off an impressive return to form: a semifinalist at the US Open, a quarterfinalist in Shanghai, and the winner in Antwerp.
